Abandoned Tombstones / Cemeteries ...

These tombstones were found by researchers in various parts of Kemper County. I will link their email address, but this does not mean they are researching these people. It only means that they found the tombstones. If you have any additions or if these people are your family and you would like your email address attached, please let me know. They are grouped as to location, not in alphabetical order.

Family 1 Location: Found in an abandoned field off the Kellis Store Road, on what was formerly known as the Jim Hailey Place. It is privately owned property. The Kellis store road leads off HWY 397 going from Preston to Lynnville. Submitted- by Bobbie Hailey Waters

Note:  Other graves in the cemetery appear to have been marked with rocks and some tombstones may have been shattered when timber was cut in the area.

My name is Beth Richardson. My family has owned land in the extreme Northwest corner of Kemper County for approximately 50 years or longer. All my life, I have heard stories about a "Indian Cemetery" being on our land. The older I got, the more interested I became about the people who were possibly buried on our land. There is even an acre parcel set aside at the location of the cemetery. It is marked on the master land maps.

There are two or three large stones that look as though they are head stones in this area. There is also one actual grave marker for a child buried supposedly at this location. I will list the information below and enclose a photo for your records. My question to you is where might I go to find information on who is buried here? I know the courthouse might be a good place to start however, because the grave is so old, I do not know if there will be any record whatsoever. Any information that you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much.
