The Presbyterian Church in DeKalb, the first
of this church's buildings on this site at the corner of the current
Church and Main Streets. Photo date unknown. The church was
organized in late 1846 and this building was erected not long
thereafter. The lot and lumber were contributed by a Mr. Steele.
James and Murdock McRae, brothers and pioneer settlers from
Scotland, supervised construction. The building was 40 feet by 60
feet, the pulpit at the eastern end and set between two doors. The
first stated supplies (ministers) were responsible for services only
one Sunday in six months. In those days roads were difficult and
ministers traveled by horseback. (Source: A Brief History of DeKalb
Presbyterian Church, Organized September 1846, a six page pamphlet
published by the church in September 1996.)

The present church building was dedicated
November 22, 1953.
