Venie Little Craig, daughter of George James and Mary Ellen Poole Little and wife of James Alfred Craig, the first and only lady sheriff of Kemper County. She was appointed and duly elected to fill the unexpired term of her husband James after his death.

James Alfred Craig, son of John Thomas and Lake Moore Craig, died of a massive heart attack on May 24, 1964, while serving his second term as sheriff.
